THE STUDY OF EMPTINESS WELCOMES YOU

A Study to Understand Experiences of Emptiness

Home: Welcome

"Feeling empty is like watching the world and your life go by but you are stuck in a bubble, and although you think you’d like to get out of the bubble and join the world, you don’t have the motivation to do it."

Description of Emptiness from a Study Participant

Home: Famous Quote

WHAT IS EMPTINESS?

Emptiness is a feeling of going through life mechanically, without emotions of purpose, and can be felt within the body. This can also come with feelings that you are disconnected from others and unable to contribute to a world around you (Herron & Sani, 2021).

From studying emptiness over the last 5 years, we know that feelings of emptiness are common and distressing. Emptiness can impact how we feel about ourselves, the people around us, and the world around us.

We are currently undertaking a study that aims to understand people's experiences of feeling empty so that we can create a way of measuring it. We hope that by having a way to measure emptiness we can improve research and in the future develop treatments to better support people who feel this way.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in our study. Participation closed in 2021, and we are currently reviewing the results.

Once we have the results of the study we will post any updates and information on this website so that you know what has come out of the project, and how your participation has helped.
